Cast Web Videos From Your Phone's Browser to Your TV

Instead of mirroring your whole screen, a web video caster finds the video on the page and sends it straight to the TV, so the picture is sharper and your phone stays free.

How it works

SmartGoCast includes a built-in browser. While you browse, it watches which media files a page loads and detects the playable video streams (MP4 and HLS / M3U8). You then pick one from a list and it plays on your TV, instead of mirroring your screen. Your phone relays the stream when a TV can't reach it directly, so more sites work.

Cast a web video step by step

  1. Open SmartGoCast and go to Web (the browser). Type a website address or choose a shortcut.
  2. Open the page with your video and start playing it once, so the page loads the stream.
  3. Tap the cast button. If no TV is connected yet, choose one from the list.
  4. A list shows the videos detected on the page. Tap one to send it to your TV. If several resolutions are available, pick the one you want.

When a site delivers the picture and the sound as two separate streams, SmartGoCast shows a single entry labelled Video (picture + sound) and combines them for you, so the video doesn't play silently.

What works and what doesn't

  • Works well: pages that play ordinary MP4 files or HLS (.m3u8) streams, many news, sports and personal sites, and videos you host yourself.
  • Doesn't work: videos protected by DRM, such as Netflix, Disney+ or Prime Video. No third-party browser can cast them. Use the cast button inside those apps.
  • Can be tricky: pages with several embedded players, or players that only load the video after an ad.

Only cast videos you have the right to watch, and respect each site's terms of use.

Troubleshooting

  • “No video detected.” Play the video on the page first, wait a few seconds, then tap the cast button again. Reloading the page can help.
  • The TV shows an error or a black screen. Try another resolution in the list, or check that the video isn't protected by DRM.
  • There is no sound. See casting to TV: video plays but no sound.
  • The TV isn't listed. See TV not showing up in the cast list.
  • The video is on a page you can't open in a browser. Mirror your screen instead: mirror Android to a TV.
